I spent most of last week -- the coldest to date -- in a tree waiting for a buck to walk by. I try to spend a few days on my own at the family cabin in Knox County during what I hope will be the peak of the rut each November, hunting hard and winding down from what is usually one of my busiest times of the year. I saw some big deer at a distance, relaxed a bit away from the office, drank a beer or three, worked off plenty of calories hiking back and forth to my two stands, and got some work done on the cabin during the few hours of down time between morning and evening hunts. So I accomplished everything I hoped to during the 2008 version of Dan's Annual Deer Camp -- other than bagging a deer.
In what has become an annual tradition here at Buckeye Sportsman, Ohio-based Horton Manufacturing has provided us with a crossbow package to give away to a lucky listener on National Hunting & Fishing Day (Sept 27) — which is also the opening day of Ohio’s deer archery season! All you need to do to enter the drawing is send a postcard with your name, address and telephone number to: ABN, POB 43, DeGraff, OH 43318.
Note on the card that it is for the crossbow giveaway and get it in the mail by Sept 22. Ottie Snyder of Horton will draw the winning entry on that week’s show and we’ll call the winner with the news on the air, and ship the Team RealTree 175 crossbow package, complete with Red Dot scope and three arrows, direct to the lucky listener. You can enter as many times as you wish, by the way, so get those cards in the mail!
If you are attending the Farm Science Review, Sept 16-18, there will be an entry box in the Buckeye Sportsman booth inside the ABN Barn as well — and I’ll be there during the mid-day hours Wednesday the 17th to acept entries personally and get some feedback on future show topics from listeners. I really look forward to that opportunity to meet listeners face-to-face at FSR each September, so please stop by!
